post holes, concrete and water
We mixed the concrete with just enough water so it would pack. This is just a tiny amount of water so the mixture is like moist soil. We placed the concrete in a 3x3x3 foot form, 6" at a time. We packed each 6" layer separately. When the form was filled with the dry mix, we started building the chimney on top of it the same day.

"pouring" *dry* concrete
a'ightthen. 553 posts · Joined 2012. #23 · Oct 6, 2013. Having eaten more concrete than most have poured ( 200-300 cu yds/wk for nearly 13 yrs), I never once encountered a concrete truck of dry mix. Low slump yes, even on a 100 degree day with 1% calcium added due to a shelter being set the next morning.

Garden path & shed base using a dry mix | DIYnot Forums
Lay the slabs on to a line set off the framework and bed them as you go. there is no need to wet the dry sand/cement mix as the natural dampness/rain will set it. Point in the next day and point up with a bucket handle tool. don't be tempted to brush in as that will only make a mess. The quants can be calculated easily as a ton of sand measures ...

Luckily the driver managed to tip it straight in but it did seem harder to level than a wet mix.

It should be the consistancy that when you squeeze a ball of it in your hand it doesn't ooze water but when you ...

Padstone cast in place concrete mix | DIYnot Forums
Design of the beam bearing is the SE's job, not the architect's. As well as engineering brick, you can also use cut-down pre-cast concrete lintels. Depending on how you arrange it, the padstone does not need to be in one monolithic piece - it can be built-up. It also depends on what size beam (s) it is supporting and how long the bearing of the ...

Cement mix using additional pea gravel | DIYnot Forums
You need to keep the cement ratio the same. So if you are wanting to keep the 1:6 ratio when you use the pea gravel, the pea gravel should be replacing the Ballast, not weakening the cement mix. So it should be a ratio 1:1:5 (cement: pea gravel : …
