Yes two 45's will have less headloss that one 90. Other options are increase the size of the piping which reduces friction/headloss or use Spaflex PVC bent in a nice gradual smooth bend. I use a piece of reinforced vinyl tubing from my overflow box bent in a long sweeping 90 degree bend over about two feet of distance.

Most sluice boxes will have riffles in the sluice run to give the water turbulence. The riffles create little vortices which drop the gold out of the material and into the sluice box. If there isn't a sluice mat or miners moss in the run, the gold will just keep washing down and out the end of the box.

If I am making a horizontal 90 degree turn with a 3" toilet drain line, which is better, using two 45 degree turns or a single 90 degree sweep fitting? You can use either 90's or 45's- 45's are preferred in my opinion. If you use 90's the lower one needs to be a long sweep pattern- or 2- 45's The top one could be a san tee or combination wye/45- using the top inlet as a clean out extension.
